German production companies have long been a benchmark for many countries worldwide in terms of efficient manufacturing and the export of machinery and plant. This situation is not likely to change overnight. However, many companies are now under massive pressure to move up a gear in terms of automation and connectivity, with experts from many fields advising that this is the right time to embrace new technology and get fit for future, alternative business models. The Covid lockdown has played a part in this dialogue, with increased reliance on remote working methods encouraging many to embrace new solutions and technology.
Finland is not only one of the most highly digitized societies worldwide, it has actually been applying digital technologies in a whole host of business environments for much of the new Millennium. Manufacturing plays a leading role in this respect, representing the backbone of the Finnish economy with the technology industry making up 51% of all Finnish exports.
