Get to know Helsinki Design District Torikorttelit
The area known as Torikorttelit consists of three oldest blocks in the heart of Helsinki, right by the sea. This neoclassical part of the city has turned into a buzzing complex of cafes and restaurants, atmospheric courtyard terraces and street-level shops through a revitalisation project. The area hosts the Helsinki City Museum, a cinema al-fresco, a speakeasy, a vinyl shop, a brewery, a hip pizzeria, a 100-year old hat shop - to mention some. A layer of new life has been added to the old town feel. Stroll, explore, enjoy!

The museum offers unique design experiences and new perspectives on multifaceted design. Design Museum's main exhibition will feature works by one of Finland's most renowned designer couples ­­–first time ever in the same exhibition. Interior designer Antti Nurmesniemi and textile artist Vuokko Nurmesniemi, both made international careers in their own fields of expertise.
Taito Café offers freshly baked sourdough bread, pastries, pies and sweet pastries. The café also serves coffee from a local roastery, microbrewery beers and organic wines. A delicious soup and salad lunch is served daily from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m

Kakola Prison, opened 1853 as accommodation for Russian soldiers who came to Finland from the Crimean War. They left 1859 and the building became a prison. This once-feared prison closed its doors in 2007, but its story doesn't end there. Prison has undergone a complete transformation in recent years and today it is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.

KBC Taproom is a cozy neighbourhood bar & restaurant by the local craft brewery Kakola Brewing Company. Located in the unique former prison area of Kakola that has now turned into a lovely neighborhood. This spot just needs to be experienced when in Turku. Enjoy the fresh beers and tasty pizzas in our sunny terrace or cozy inner. Our pizzas are made with a creative twist and seasonal ingredients. Select your choice of drink from the 16-taps of beer or from the carefully curated list of natural wines. We also do brewery tours and tastings.

Restaurant Kakolanruusu is situated in quite possibly Finland's most fascinating setting, in the old courtyard of Kakola prison. Restaurant customers also receive service in the atmospheric lounge bar, where you can enjoy cocktails, coffee or bar snacks. Much of the menu is prepared over an open fire and consists of simple and tasty dishes, served to share amongst your dinner party.
