The new Solutions Center has quickly made its mark inside the company by building a growing ecosystem with Finnish partner companies, according to Rauli Hantikainen, SVP, Head of the Industry 4.0 strategic business field, Schaeffler Industrial Division. In a recent article by the Finnish newspaper Keskisuomalainen, Hantikainen says that Schaeffler’s agile Industry 4.0 unit has found a good fit in Finland, where it is easy to find motivated companies that are ready to try new things and seek a fast technology boost for their business.
“Every partner brings their own competence and technology solutions. At the same time, we bring the international markets to the partners,” he explains.
From Schaeffler’s perspective, Jyväskylä’s strengths as an R&D location also include the local heavy industry and its associated equipment suppliers, and the local operations of the University of Jyväskylä and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, and high-level cybersecurity expertise.
Schaeffler launched the Solutions Center with five staff and will now recruit ten more experts to join the team. The center also provides indirect employment to more than 50 people among its network of partner companies, according to Keskisuomalainen.
“Business Finland is pleased to see Schaeffler set up R&D for its Industry 4.0 solution in Jyväskylä. We have helped Schaeffler identify capable partners for its business ecosystem,” says Janne Kari, Head of Industry, ICT and Digitalisation, at Business Finland’s Invest in Finland unit. “It is rewarding to observe the ecosystem evolve and the very capable partner companies covering the full ‘Industrial IoT stack’ work together towards the goal of the customer. This is where Finland excels.”
