Maine Governor Janet Mills signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Government of Finland in October of 2019, committing the state to working collaboratively with Finland towards building our respective forest bioeconomies and sharing best practices for climate resilience.
In support of this MOU, a Trade and Study Mission, organized by the Maine North Atlantic Development Office (MENADO) at Maine International Trade Center (MITC), was scheduled to take place in June 2020. Due to the COVID-19 the visit was transformed to virtual visit.
The virtual Trade and Study Mission started with two webinars organized in August by MENADO together with the Embassy of Finland in Washington, Business Finland and Luke:
The webinars introduced Finland’s transition from traditional pulp, paper, and wood manufacturing to a world-leading bioeconomy and provided an overview of Maine’s efforts to reinvent its forest industry.
The virtual visit continues with Virtual B2B Matchmaking until the end of October 2020. MENADO and Business Finland will organize business matchmakings between Maine and Finland businesses and organizations.
Maine businesses and entrepreneurs, academic researchers, and policy makers are interested in business and research opportunities in e.g. Finnish wood constructions, biobased plastic replacement innovation and biofuels.
