Singapore has declared a War on Diabetes and the Prime Minister of Singapore expressed his concern on diabetes in Singapore already during his 2017 National Day Rally Speech. Roughly 400 000 Singapore residents have diabetes and it is estimated to affect nearly a third of Singaporeans aged over 60.
The broad strategy is to promote a healthy lifestyle and reduce obesity rates in order to cut down on new diabetes cases. Part of the strategy is also to strengthen early screening and intervention and to identify the disease in early stage. Singapore also supports better disease control, that slows disease progression and reduces complications. Developing and implementing process of a multi-year Diabetes Action Plan and Monitoring has started.
