Why South Africa?

Why should Finnish companies in the food sector explore business opportunities in South Africa?

Finnish presence in the South African food sector has been on the increase in recent years, oats and dairy firms being the main drivers. With a growing population and an expanding middle class, demand for food products in growing across the board. Business opportunities exist particularly for Finnish companies selling meats, seafood, alcoholic beverages and bottled water.

Program highlights

The September 2018 programme includes visits to relevant potential counterparts in the different levels of the local value chain. The definite program will be customized to the expressed needs of the participating Finnish companies. In addition, two Food from Finland networking events will be organised, in both Johannesburg and Cape Town

Why should Finnish companies in the water sector explore business opportunities in South Africa?

South Africa has very limited water resources and at many municipalities water restrictions are in place. There are opportunities for water treatment and management solutions in the whole South Africa in both public and private sectors. The target regions of the delegation are Gauteng, where there are several identified counterparts, and the Western Cape, where market actors have shown interest. The purpose is also to understand available financing and partnering possibilities for projects.


Participation fee

To cover the expenses of arranging the visit to South Africa, Business Finland will charge a participation fee as follows:

  • Micro Businesses and SMEs: EUR 1275 + 24% VAT per person
  • Major Companies: EUR 1500 + 24% VAT per person

The Food From Finland Growth Program will cover the expenses for its members.

Business Finland will invoice the participation fee after the visit based on the actual costs. The invoiced fee will not exceed the amounts mentioned above.
