BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES FOR FINNISH COMPANIES IN JAPAN: BIO & CIRCULAR ECONOMY AND BATTERY MANUFACTURING

Welcome to join the Team Finland business delegation led by Mr. Mika Lintilä, Minister of Economic Affairs to Japan on 17 - 21 February, 2019 and discover new business opportunities in Innovative Bio & Circular Economy Products and Solutions and in the Battery Industry.

WHY ATTEND?

Japan is the world’s third largest economy after US and China. It has a huge home market with a population of 126 million. The export from Finland to Japan has grown during the last years being over 1,2 billion euros in 2017 and the growth has continued in 2018.

EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) is expected to come in place during 2019 and it will remove trade barriers and customs for a wide variety of products, and this may make products previously unattractive in Japanese market competitive. The agreement is going to accelerate and facilitate both export and import as well as investments between the parties. One concrete impact is lowering of export tariffs from EU and Finland to Japan.

One of the leading themes in Japan is circular economy and related bio economy. Japanese markets are huge and developing quickly. Finnish products and solutions have lots of opportunities to access the market. Beyond this Japanese trade houses are looking for partnerships in 3rd countries and investments opportunities as well.

One of the strongholds of Japan is automotive industry and electronics. Due to this fact Japanese are strong global players in the field of battery industry. The world is changing and therefore there is a huge demand for energy storages (electricity) and EV vehicles to mitigate climate change.

Finland and Japan will celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations in 2019.
