We invite you to join the Team Finland visit to the Netherlands, led by Mr. Petri Peltonen, Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, on 4–6 November 2019.
The visit will bring together Finland-based and Dutch companies with public sector organizations and innovation networks. The Finnish Business Delegation aims to meet with Dutch companies of shipbuilding and ports’ segments and with the Dutch innovation agency RVO, and to visit the most advanced maritime testing facilities in The Netherlands. Both Dutch and Finnish marine ecosystems will benefit from effective cooperation and joint development of state-of-the art digital technologies.
The Business Delegation program includes a visit to Europort Rotterdam exhibition. The Exhibition dates are 5–8 November 2019 and the business delegation will visit the exhibition on Wednesday 6 November. Europort will be the leading exhibition for special purpose vessels. Europort is the business hub for the maritime sector, the event focuses on specialised ships and the smart solutions. With 27 000 professional visitors and 1.100 exhibiting companies, Europort belongs to the world’s leading maritime meeting places.
For centuries, the maritime sector has been one of the most iconic, and significant elements of the thriving Dutch economy. Dutch maritime leans on innovation and the sector’s R&D spending figures are high above international averages.
Rotterdam promotes itself as the Maritime Capital of Europe. The City and Port Authority have set targets of making Rotterdam the smartest and cleanest port in the world, offering sustainable shipping to customers worldwide.
The Netherlands and Finland stand out as the forerunners in developing autonomous and energy efficient solutions. By 2030, a large part of Dutch shipping has switched to cleaner energy sources and certain vessels will be fully powered by electricity. In the longer term, the biggest ports such as Rotterdam will be directly connected with other regional hubs, operating with fully automated containers and systems that are adaptable to changes in water levels.
The Netherlands and Rotterdam Europort is the key hub for development of automated port activities.
Digitalization is transforming the global maritime industry. Combining a strong, established maritime ecosystem with world-leading capabilities in digitalization, sensoring and wireless technology, Finland is a global forerunner in the development of digital solutions, autonomous and remotely operated vessels and energy efficient solutions to mitigate climate change.
This visit is especially targeted at Finnish suppliers who aim to jointly develop solutions to marine merchant, passenger and special vessels; Finnish companies who develop solutions and systems to smart ports and autonomous vessels; as well as companies who can apply skills and technologies from other industries.
