Team Finland China is organizing a business delegation visit to Hubei Province on May 27-28, 2021. The visit is led by Mr. Jarno Syrjälä, Ambassador of Finland to China.

Hubei province offers many potential business opportunities for Finnish companies ranging from energy and bio economy to healthcare and winter sports.

Hubei is facing restraint in power supply with its fast economy development, and there is a strong demand for energy efficiency in different industries. Hubei plans to invest RMB 400 billion (~ EUR 51 billion) in the energy sector, aiming to become an energy stronghold in central China. There are also good opportunities for Finnish energy companies in the fields of waste to power, smart energy solutions and power flexibility, to mention a few.

Hubei is a key manufacturing base for pulp and paper in China, housing many leading paper mills. There are potential business opportunities for Finnish companies, not only in pulp and paper, but in paper mill related technologies or solutions, such as energy efficiency (CHP), waste water treatment and automation.

Recently the Winter Sport Administration Center of the General Administration of Sport of China (GAS) reached a strategic cooperation agreement with the Hubei provincial government on making Hubei the national model province for winter sports development in southern China and over 200 projects with a total investment of RMB 120 billion (~ EUR 15 billion) related to sports will be implemented in Hubei.

Regarding healthcare, the "Hubei model" is introduced as the reform of disease prevention and control system and the construction of public health system. A concept called "Big Health" is highlighted as the key development sector including pharmaceutical research, high-end medical equipment development, emerging medical services, health care industry development, health food, fitness and sports. Hubei province will focus on building Wuhan to a Big Health industry core area and to a national medical material production base, for the province to become the core area of health industry in Central China.

The delegation program will consist of:

  • Possible meetings with provincial leaders and local government authorities
  • Seminar and match-making with local companies
  • Visits to selected key local companies.
