Dr. Ilona Lundström, Director General, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment will visit Brazil (Brasília, Belo Horizonte and Rio de Janeiro) with a Team Finland business delegation on May 30 – June 3, 2022.

The goal of the visit is to foster relations between the two countries, as well as offer an excellent opportunity for Finnish companies in the Energy and Mining & Metals industries to establish high-level business connections with companies in Brazil.

The largest economy by nominal GDP in Latin America and the Caribbean, Brazil alone corresponds to half of Finland's trade activities in South America. Finnish exports to Brazil have doubled between 2018 and 2020 and the available numbers from 2021 also show exports continuing at a strong level even during the pandemic.

With the world's largest yet 5G auction held in 2021, Brazil welcomes the ecosystem of connectivity and embraces Industry 4.0. With strong participation of Mining, Electricity and Oil & Gas sectors, digital transformation investments are at strong pace in the country and private LTE networks, cloud, digital twin and IoT solutions feature as key opportunities of which Finnish companies could benefit from.

Energy

Brazil is the number one country among global renewable energy generators, with 85% of its installed capacity coming from green sources. In the next decade, the national energy park is expected to increase in 75GW, with wind and solar expansions leading the way. Among relevant opportunities identified by Team Finland Brazil, power management and forecasting, energy storage solutions, automation of power distribution lines and substations, smart metering, demand response, off grid and remote energy systems, feature as enablers of Brazilian energy transition efforts.

Mining and metals

Latin America's largest mining and metals market (EUR 42 billion in 2018), Brazil offers a unique set of opportunities for innovative technology providers. Over the last years, major players operating in Brazil have been increasingly interested in cutting-edge technology solutions from both startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to boost productivity and safety. Besides traditional segments, there has been a growing demand for digital mining solutions (e.g., private LTE networks, cyber security, Internet of Things etc.) in the local market, as companies embrace the so-called Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Who should attend?

The visit is targeted at Finnish companies operating in Energy and Mining & Metals focusing on the Latin American Region and with key interests and activities in Brazil. The country has upcoming cycles of green investment and therefore companies offering concrete products and services that support decarbonization, resource efficient processes and ESG oriented solutions, are welcome to join.
