There is a great need to decarbonize industry sectors and especially the most emission rich industries like Steel Industry. Business Finland’s Decarbonizing Industries campaign organizes events in Germany and Turkiye this upcoming fall to network, share the knowledge and meet in person international steel companies with the great need to find technologies to decarbonize their operations in order to meet the their customers’ needs and regulations. The aim is  to build long term relationships and to initiate co-creation activities in the longer run.

Berlin, Germany on 12-13 September

Join this unique opportunity to learn how Europe's powerhouse and world's fourth largest economy, Germany, is investing in decarbonizing its energy intensive industries and to present Finnish capabilities and solutions to the German audience.

Industrial production represents more than a third of Germany’s economy. Sectors such as steel, basic metal, and chemical build the backbone German industry. Germany is, for example, EUs largest steel producer.

German Government has set actions to decarbonize these energy intensive industries in the climate protection plan 2050. The actions are implemented through the climate action program 2030 and the national hydrogen strategy. The national recovery and resilience plan includes €3.3 billion funding for decarbonization solutions focusing on hydrogen up until 2030 and €3.1 billion funding for digitalization of the economy, including industry until 2030. Investments up to EUR 75 billion by 2050 are awaited in steel and chemical industries alone.

Istanbul, Turkiye on 9-11 October

Join the delegation to learn how world’s 7th largest steel manufacturer, Turkiye, is implementing and investing in decarbonization efforts in iron & steel industry, and to present Finnish capabilities to Turkish audience.

In 2021, the EU announced “Fit for 55 Package” in which the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) was introduced. CBAM will result in charges for import goods coming to the EU by enforcing purchase of CO2 allowances. Turkiye’s main export destination in iron & steel industry is the EU with 7.4 mil. tons, which stands for EU’s 31% of total steel imports. Studies made for various scenarios indicate that the competitiveness loss may reach up to 10 % for Turkiye’s steel industry due to CBAM. Turkiye envisions to establish its own compliance market, similar to the EU’s ETS.

Our goal is to get to know the key stakeholders of the Turkish iron & steel industry, their decarbonization plans, how they are applying decarbonization solutions and in which new solutions they are interested in. This delegation program includes networking event, manufacturing site visits and meetings all tailor-made to Finnish companies providing decarbonization solutions for iron & steel industry such as renewable energy projects, digitalization, energy and material efficiency, hydrogen energy, CBAM and carbon market solutions, battery storage, DRI (Direct Reduction of Iron) as well as to Finnish companies interested in developing R&D projects with Turkish partners on the above mentioned topics.
