Tripsteri App is Finland’s nominee for best national digital solution for the international World Summit Awards (WSA). With this nomination in the category Culture & Tourism Tripsteri App qualifies for evaluation among 400 international projects by the WSA Jury 2018.
The World Summit Award is a global initiative within the framework of the United Nations World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) selecting and promoting the world’s best digital innovation. The WSA contributes to the UN sustainable development agenda by recognizing local digital content with positive impact on society.
Tripsteri is a Finnish travel media publishing online travel guides, printed guidebooks, podcasts, and a progressive mobile application. The app relies on curated content from professional journalist in order to provide planned walks and tips, while also keeping sustainability in mind. Some fascinating AR elements are also included.
– Tripsteri app is the champion app for value based, sustainable travel. It enables and encourages people to make responsible choices in their destination: steering away from harmfull elements of mass tourism, promoting local culture and businesses and making sure healthy choices are easily available, says Soile Vauhkonen, CFO and Co-founder of Tripsteri.
Vauhkonen also points out that much of Tripsteri’s success is thanks to the great start-up environment in Finland.
– Business Finland has been a key contributor for us to go international, for example with funding for product development. We have also had the unique opportunity to join the Business Finland AR/VR delegation to showcase our product at several international startup events, such as Slush Singapore and Slush Tokyo, Vauhkonen says.
Tripsteri app has already been acknowledged several times, also in Business Finland’s competition for digital travel innovations.
Each year, WSA nominees are selected from more than 180 UN member states. The WSA National Experts nominate up to eight projects for each country – one for every WSA category. Tripsteri App is one of eight nominees from Finland, together with Solved, Elias Robot, Kide Science, CHAOS AI, Micro Competencies, Huoleti and Evergreen Farm Oy.
The winners will be announced in December.
