5G to benefit industry – large 5G VIIMA project starts

The 5G VIIMA project studies the potential of the developing 5G technology for industrial applications.

The project utilizes the latest network technology and ICT industry innovations, such as video analytics, sensor systems, autonomous devices and VR/AR to test and study how industrial environments could better utilize digitalisation and wireless techniques. The project aims to create and test solutions that provide real value in industrial use.

- 5G VIIMA is a good example of what our Connected Intelligent Industries Finland program is about. It is essentially about development of smart industrial solutions for global markets in close cooperation with industry, academia and research organizations. Development of such data-driven digital value systems is of critical importance for the renewal of Finnish industries, says Program Director Toni Mattila from Business Finland.

The University of Oulu is responsible for the coordination of the two-year-long 5G VIIMA project.
