Business Finland kicks off foresight co-operation in circular economy with Japanese NISTEP

Business Finland continues unique co-operation with The Japanese National Institute of Science and Technology Policy (NISTEP) in joint foresight project for bio and circular economy. Target is to formulate future vision and identify alternative growth paths for circular economy theme at large together with Japanese and Finnish top experts.

The research project kicks off with a survey to evaluate maturity and alternative development paths of circular economy phenomena and to identify growth drivers globally, particularly from the point of view of Finnish and Japanese operating environment. The aim is to identify the future key markets where the offering can be successful and lead markets created. The results of surveys both in Japan and Finland will be compared to formulate future views for both countries. Scenario sessions will be organized in Finland and Japan to find potential areas for innovation partnerships.

In the survey, bio and circular economy is approached from wide perspective. Seven different theme areas are identified:

Agriculture, forestry, fisheries, food, and biology

Environment, resources and energy

ICT

Cities, architecture, civil engineering and traffic

Materials, devices & processes

Space, oceans, earth science & science foundations

Survey is addressed to key experts, influencers and researchers in the field with vision of the future of bio and circular economy. Challenge your colleagues onboard and respond to the survey!

NISTEP is one of the leading foresight experts and research organization and closely engaged in the Japanese government's science and technology policy-planning process. Business Finland boosts innovation driven exports and uses foresight as a tool to identify future markets for Finnish businesses and research collaboration. In our joint foresight project we are able to expand our knowledge sharing and foresight methods of both countries and expertise of a variety of researchers and experts both in Japan and in Finland. Technical Research Centre of Finland VTT shall operate as a research partner in the project.
