”Authentic Finnish Educational Travel product”- Top product competition 2019

Educational travel is one of the sectors in tourism in which Finland has great potential for increasing the amount of international travelers. The educational travel offering in Finland remains dispersed and the full potential of the theme has not been utilized. Visit Finland has selected educational travel as one of the thematic focus points that additionally support the development of year-round travel.

Does your company / product want to be a forerunner of educational travel?

We invite companies or networks that invest in the development of educational travel and have experience or strong interest to be a forerunner in educational travel product development to participate in this competition.

Does your company / product fulfill the criteria set for a top educational travel product?

  • The company must be operating in Finland responsibly and must follow proper business principles
  • The product must be ready for international markets, please refer to Visit Finland's criteria for internationalization (Note! The product must be ready for the market, not only an idea of a product)
  • Each company can sign up with one product that they consider to be their top product

Evaluation and selection of winners

There are two categories in the competition: 1) school camps for children and adolescents 2) professional programs for teachers and others interested in education. Five top products will be chosen for each category. The winners will be announced in September in 2019.

A jury consisting of Visit Finland and National Agency for Education experts will make the evaluation and selects the winners from the finalists. Visit Finland reserves the right to specify the criteria of selection during the process.

The products will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • Compatibility with Visit Finland's internationalization criteria; absolute requirement
  • The attractiveness and interest of the product; points given on a scale of 1-5
  • The authenticity, locality and experienciality of the product – the product supports the theme of "Authentic Finnish educational travel product"; points given on a scale of 1-5
  • The "uniqueness" of the product, the product differentiates itself from other products of the category; points given on a scale of 1-5
  • Content is according to the theme, education is an essential part of the program; points given on a scale of 1-5
  • The adaptability of the product to the market, saleability; points given on a scale of 1-5
  • Utilizing customer feedback (proactive/reactive/no feedback system); points given on a scale of 1-5
  • Sustainability has been taken into consideration in the design and execution of the product; +1 point
  • The product extends the travel season; +1 point
  • Product's visibility in digital channels; +1 point

The prizes

The top products of the competition will be announced in the educational workshop in Helsinki 6th of September 2019. Around 40 buyers from the main markets of education travel will be attending the workshop. The winners will attend the workshop free-of-charge (for others the fee is 500 eur) and will receive Visit Finland's certificate for "Authentic Finnish Educational Travel product". In addition, we aim to increase the visibility of the winning products in Visit Finland's marketing materials.
