GreenE2 connects operators in hydrogen and carbon dioxide utilization

Green Electrification, a new ecosystem for the utilization of hydrogen and carbon dioxide, is ready for launch! GreenE2 is building a broad-based innovation ecosystem in Finland to serve as the foundation for substantial new business in the field of Power-to-X. The innovation ecosystem is coordinated by CLIC Innovation, a platform company specialized in open innovation. The project is funded by Business Finland.

The goal is to form a cross-disciplinary network in Finland to serve as a motor for global business growth. The ecosystem’s spearheads are hydrogen and carbon dioxide products (incl. synthetic fuels and materials) and their underlying technologies, as well as the facilitation of carbon-neutral industry through electrification and green hydrogen. The project is the first step in a cross-disciplinary collaboration to create a sustainable new market and accomplish significant climate acts.

In an ecosystem project, the key is to bring together operators from different sectors.  The project will connect operators with international partners and design a strong, unified vision and roadmap for business and competence development. Another aim is to facilitate cross-disciplinary cooperation and public affairs work for the development of the operational environment.

“Since its launch early this year, the Power-to-X ecosystem has already given rise to a number of notable joint projects. It is essential that the plans for an ecosystem of this scope, impact and global business potential are coordinated in a systematic fashion. Finland must actively take part in international efforts around the project’s themes. This is one of the goals of the coordination project by CLIC Innovation,” says Sini Uuttu, Senior Adviser at Business Finland.

Partners involved in creating the ecosystem with CLIC Innovation include VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, Lappeenranta University of Technology, Business Finland, Flexens, Fortum, Wärtsilä, St1, Vantaa Energy, AFRY, Gasum, Helen, Finnish Energy, Valmet, UPM, SSAB, ABB, Elenia and Neste.
