German internet hosting company and data center operator Hetzner Online has opened its third data center in Finland. Two of the data centers house dedicated root servers and virtual cloud servers, and one is a co-location center for business and private clients.
“We offer scalable services and products with quick deployment, low costs and the perfect location close to the Helsinki Airport. Both our infrastructure with its fast network connections and our location in Helsinki are ideal for international business,” says Joonas Terhivuo, CEO, Hetzner Finland, in a statement.
According to Hetzner, its business in Finland has experienced steady growth and three more data centers are already under construction at the same site. Data Center Park Helsinki has space to accommodate 20 data centers in total.
“We are pleased with the business development at the Finnish location,” says Terhivuo.
Hetzner’s Data Center Park Helsinki facilities are now serving customers in Finland as well as customers in more than 150 countries.
Hetzner currently employs about 25 people in Finland and is hiring more staff as it continues to expand its operations in Finland.
“Hetzner started construction work at Data Center Park Helsinki in the summer of 2016, and its first data center came online in March 2018. Now there are already three data centers and the business is continuing to grow. This means more jobs during the construction phase as well as a growing number of permanent jobs,” says Alpo Akujärvi, Head of Industry, Data Centers, Invest in Finland.
Hetzner’s data centers are powered by renewable energy supplied by Vantaan Energia. A new 110 kV power substation located next to the data center park provides a secure power supply for Hetzner’s operations.
“We are also very pleased that all of Hetzner’s data centers use renewable wind and hydro power, and this will also increase as the new facilities are completed,” says Akujärvi.
Hetzner was one of the companies involved in financing the C-Lion submarine cable system between Finland and Germany, which provides the fastest telecommunications connections from the Nordic countries to the European markets.
“This connection has presented an excellent opportunity for Hetzner’s Finnish customers and is one reason why there is plenty of demand for Hetzner’s data center services in Finland,” Akujärvi explains.
