Prima Power, part of the Italian Prima Industrie group and a leading specialist in laser and sheet metal working technology, acquired the Finnish company Finn-Power Oy in 2008. A decade later, the Italian-Finnish collaboration has proved to be a major success story.
Now they are celebrated with the opening of a new plant in Seinäjoki, Western Finland, where Finn-Power manufactures Prima Power punching, punching/shearing, punching/laser-cutting, automation equipment and systems for the global market.
According to Prima Power, Finn-Power is strongly focused on innovation with 20% of the workforce dedicated to R&D activities. The production capacity in the new 20,000 square metre plant is 40% higher than Finn-Power's previous facility located in Kauhava. About 450 machines and automation equipment will be delivered from the new Finnish plant annually. Thanks to its efficient heat recovery system, low-energy windows and solar panels, the plant also uses 40% less heat energy.
"People are our most important capital. They were already here which is why we also built the new factory in Finland. Finland has top technology expertise, low bureaucracy and an active attitude towards business development," said Gianfranco Carbonato, Chairman of the Board, Prima Industrie, at the plant's official inauguration ceremony on 21 March 2019. "Seinäjoki was the best of the regional options: a growing centre and a university town, with excellent train and truck connections. Almost half of our employees were already living in the city."
The plant inauguration event also marked Finn-Power's 50th anniversary as a company.
"The unique experience in a comprehensive range of technologies and the global extension of our industrial and commercial footprint are primary strengths for our group. For this reason, I'm extremely proud to celebrate the 50-year anniversary of Finn-Power Oy and the opening of this brand new, efficient and modern site," said Carbonato.
"We in Business Finland are very proud on the trust, confidence and long-term investments Prima Industries is placing on expanding world-class manufacturing automation and digital competences and capacity in Prima Power Oy, Seinäjoki facility. This is a good example that Finland offers an innovative and competitive business environment for leading high-tech companies to develop and manufacture their products for world markets in smart, clean and sustainable manner in Finland." says Markku Kivistö, Head of Industry, Cleantech, Invest in Finland, Business Finland.
The new plant was commissioned by the Seinäjoen Yrityskiinteistöt, a company owned by the City of Seinäjoki, and built by Lujatalo Oy for an overall investment of around EUR 20 million. The 20,000 square meter facility includes a production plant, offices and a showroom, and was specially designed and built for Finn-Power which has rented it on a long-term basis.
"Finn-Power is our region's leading technology industry company and export driver. It offers many opportunities for other businesses in the area and for new companies locating in Seinäjoki. I am convinced that Finn Power will play a very significant role in the development and business activity of our region far into the future," said Hannu Kantonen, Managing Director, Into Seinäjoki Oy, a business development company owned by the City of Seinäjoki.
Seinäjoki is known as one of Finland's leading growth areas, attracting more than EUR 1 billion in investments by companies in the period 2017–2021. In the near future, Seinäjoki's commercial downtown area will be completely renewed and a new business area covering hundreds of hectares will be established, providing more space for companies.
