100 years of Finnish-Japanese cooperations presented in the media tour

Japanese journalists got to experience the close relations between Finnish people and nature.

The year 2019 celebrated 100 years of diplomatic relations between Finland and Japan. Finland and Japan have grown to become strategic partners in international affairs, research and innovation, business and culture.

In October 2019, six journalists from Japan were invited to Finland by Finnfacts/Business Finland and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the theme: 100 Year of Finnish-Japanese FriendshipDuring the media tour journalists got to learn the diplomatic and cultural relations between two countries. 

The facts that Finland ranked as the happiest country in the world in the UN World Happiness Report for the second year in a row, and ranked as the 3rd most socially just country in the EUinterested journalists. During the media tour journalists got to discuss those topics with many expertsand interview a Finnish father who was at parental leave 

While celebrating the relations between the two countries from the past to the present, it is equally important to look into the future co-operationsMetsä Pavilion is to be built on the premises of the Embassy of Finland in Tokyo for the coming Summer Olympics, so the construction and interior design of Metsä Pavilion were presented in the tour. Journalists also got to meet several participating companies and learn more about their know-hows that covered several different industries.   

The result of this media tour included 39 articles published in different media outlets that have reached altogether over 102 million readersJournalists especially wrote a lot about sauna culture in Finland, gender equality, Finns close relations with nature, and the sustainable wooden construction of the coming Metsä Pavilion. 

One thing worth highlighting is that all the journalists participating into the tour has become friends and continued to share their publications and information about Finland regularly in a social media group for many months even the tour has ended. The impact of media tour will continue to go beyond the existing publications
