"The health sector is about solving fundamental problems," says Vili Kostamo, who created the self-service health check station
At times, people in various parts of the world queue for hours for the self-service health measurement kiosk developed by Doctor Vili Kostamo. It is a mobile soundproof and vision-protected self-service point weighing approximately 500 kilograms, where a customer can independently perform a health check in five minutes. This Medicubex service is now on a upward trajectory and contracts are emerging.

- Medicubex is a start-up company in the health technology sector that has developed a self-measurement station for fast and independent health check-ups.
- The company has expanded internationally, e.g. Germany and the United Kingdom.
- Medicubex's growth and development are based on strong partnerships and funding from Team Finland.
A customer entering a self-measurement station (eHealth Station™) of Medicubex, established in 2020, can quickly measure parameters such as blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, temperature, weight and fat percentage, as well as get a resting ECG and AGE assessment. The self-measurement stations have become familiar to Helsinki’s health care customers at the Kalasatama and Vuosaari health stations. In addition to Helsinki, there are stations in three other wellbeing services counties in Finland and at the Terveystalo medical centers.
The doctor's or nurse's reception will become more efficient, and there will be more time for treatment planning, as the customer can make basic measurements themselves before the appointment or as part of monitoring, for example, by using the Omaolo service.
“When we established the company, we decided to do our part and try to stop the worsening of the lack of resources in health care through prevention. We have new solutions to old problems like cardiovascular disease prevention and treatment,” says Medicubex founder and CEO Vili Kostamo.
Vili Kostamo is a doctor who uses his training and enthusiasm to make things better. In concrete terms, this is reflected in the business idea of the company founded by Kostamo: to help individuals stay healthy and alleviate major public health challenges. The company's customers are public and private health service providers who use the company's technology in their services.
First large customers in EU countries and the UK
The company's rapid growth in Finland is partly due to the fact that it has entered boldly the international healthcare market.
“Internationally acclaimed reference customers also contribute significantly to the progress in Finland. We are internationalizing very quickly, and this has been a conscious decision, although traditionally, the domestic market should be “conquered” before starting export efforts.”
According to Kostamo, presenting a large and visible physical product at health and technology fairs has been an effective way to find sales leads and generate interest in the target market. For example, at London Tech Week in June, people queued for three hours to test a self-measurement station. This was also noticed by potential cooperation partners and customers present at the event.
“The fair had already closed, but people waited in line until the guards asked them to leave. If you can offer a chance to try something or an experience, it interests people,” Kostamo says.
Launched in May 2025, the partnership with the cardiovascular center of Frankfurt University Hospital brought the company great media exposure in Germany.
“The local university hospital is the best possible reference customer. With this, we even caused a small sensation.”
At the same time, Medicubex was selected for the German Medical Forge accelerator program for 2025–2026. Funded by the German government, the program aims to accelerate the deployment of the most promising new health technologies in Germany. Only six companies were selected for the program.
“We received 189,000 euros of German de minimis funding for the development of imports. I could not have imagined that this would also be possible for a Finnish startup.”
The first devices were delivered to Europe in December 2024. Self-measurement stations have been sold and delivered to Estonia, Latvia, the UK, and Germany. Medicubex retains ownership of the physical device and takes care of its maintenance, software services, and updates.

Growth company now concluding contracts in Finland
In October 2025, Medicubex won a public tender organized by the Finnish expert organization Istekki Oy for the acquisition of self-measurement stations. The estimated value of the acquisition is EUR 4 million. With the agreement, eHealth Stations will be available mainly in 15 wellbeing services counties. This multiplies the startup company's operations in Finland.
At the same time, a strategic partnership was announced with Terveystalo, which is also Sweden's third largest provider of occupational health services through FeelGood. Terveystalo has made Medicubex eHealth Stations part of its occupational health service selection:
“The first measuring station was taken into use already in September in the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant area owned by Teollisuuden Voima (TVO) as part of the staff's occupational health services."
Vili Kostamo encourages companies to take bold steps. Kostamo's tips for internationalization:
-
Meet your future customers as early as possible – 1. it's the only way to find out what works and what doesn't.
-
Participate in trade fairs, industry events and competitions. Suddenly, 10,000 Italians know you because you appeared without realizing it in a YouTube video shot at the fair.
-
Fail quickly – and learn from it. Finland may not be your first market.
-
When you start from scratch, you need to get people's attention. Invent your own way to save the world!
-
References help create more references. To begin with, any customer that pays anything is better than no customer at all.
