More information about the theme of the program

In the digital world, seamless telecommunications are becoming increasingly important. 5GA and 6G technologies enable the development of new tools to digitize and automate the societies of the 2030s. These technologies also help achieve the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

Finland has been an international pioneer in mobile telecommunications since the beginning of GSM technology. Telecommunications is one of the key technologies for which Finland is known worldwide. In order for Finland to maintain its position as a pioneer, new technologies must be boldly utilised and developed.

Why was the theme chosen?

Business Finland's 6G Bridge program helps in the development and utilisation of 6G technology and in maintaining Finland's pioneering position in the future. The 6G Bridge programme encourages top Finnish researchers and companies to increase domestic and international cooperation, also outside the EU.

Finland's Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda, SRIA (pdf), provides an excellent framework for the 6G Bridge programme. SRIA is a concrete demonstration of the unique collaboration between industry, academia and the ecosystem. This is one of Finland's strengths in international competition.

At the heart of the program are:

  • Strengthening 5GA/6G key capabilities
  • Networking and cooperation between companies in the sector
  • New innovations and international business

Business Finland's goal for the program

The aim of the 6G Bridge program is to make Finland an international pioneer in 5G Advanced and 6G technologies related to sustainable industry and society (e.g. smart cities and factories, smart energy and smart ports). The program provides an opportunity for networking between different actors, which will create the foundation for new 6G cooperation.

The objectives of the program are:

  • Increasing ecosystem cooperation in research and innovation
  • 5GA/6G technology
  • Building the business ecosystems of the future and attracting international investment
  • Strengthening 5GA/6G key capabilities
  • Strengthening testing and experimentation facilities for 6G technology

The program is part of Business Finland's Digital Native Finland mission, which aims to keep Finland at the forefront of the world in the field of network and communication technology and to provide growth opportunities for Finnish companies.
