Funding Call: Recycling and reuse investments 2023

The funding call is intended for pilot and demonstration facilities for the reuse of side streams and different materials and the recycling of waste streams, or companies making industrial first commercial investments, The pioneering companies must operate in Finland.

What kinds of projects are eligible for this funding?

The funding will be allocated to:

  • pilot and demonstration plants
  • the first commercial installation investments
  • introduction of new technologies into existing processes
  • digital solutions promoting recycling and reuse (excluding online sales and investments in distribution channels).

The assessment of a project’s eligibility

Business Finland’s funding is always discretionary. The funding decision will be made in accordance with the selection criteria defined in the funding call and Business Finland’s normal funding criteria. 

Aspects that affect the assessment include:

  • schedule for implementing the readiness level project (by 31 December 2025)
  • total financing and environmental permit in order
  • new turnover generated by the project
  • the novelty value of the solution proposed in the project
  • the impact of the project on the promotion of circular economy in Finland (local, national or international impact)

How does one apply for funding?

The funding application must be submitted through Business Finland’s  online service. Piloting and demonstration projects are applied for with the research, development and piloting application. The investment project is applied for with the circular economy investment grant application. Under the RRF section in the application, select the application identifier RRF – Recycling and reuse investments. 

In the supplementary call, projects necessary to achieve the goals of the RRF (Recovery and Resilience Facility), Finland's sustainable growth program, will be financed. As a rule, projects should be immediately implementable.

The funding does not burden the de minimis aid for companies or the Commission’s temporary support program.

Application schedule

Applicants are advised to contact Business Finland well before submitting their application. The funding call will end on 27.9.2023.

The funding decisions will be made by the end of 2023
