UAE has been actively investing in developing its digital infrastructure and technology sectors. The country has a target of becoming a regional and, even more ambitiously, a global hub for the data economy. Data driven industries are seen as the major pillar of the economic diversification strategy. In April 2022 UAE government launched its data economy strategy with the goal of increasing data economy’s contribution to the national GDP from 9.7% in 2022 to 19.4% in 2032. Since then, it has been working on shaping the regulatory framework, fostering innovation, working on smart city projects and implementing AI (UAE has a ministry of AI) among other initiatives.
The UAE has a GDP of 415 Bn$ (Finland 300 Bn$) and it’s growing at 4% annually. Moreover, the UAE secured its position as the foremost Arab and regional hub for E-commerce. Around 40% of the UAE’s population engages with government digital services more than once every week.
