Business Finland’s Defense and Digital Resilience program is organizing a webinar to present opportunities for the Finnish defense industry in Sweden, with a focus on the air and space domain.
Since 2020, Sweden’s investments in defense have more than doubled and investments are expected to amount to 143 bn sek in 2025. One of the prioritized domains is air and space, where Sweden aims to develop their drone capabilities as well as space situational awareness and security.
In July 2024, the Swedish Government released a space and security strategy that allocated 1 bn sek for the development of Sweden’s space capabilities between 2024-32. The strategy is designed to help Sweden develop its space ISR capabilities, support Sweden’s total defense and crisis preparedness and allow Sweden to be an active contributor to the international space security arena. With drone technology being increasingly important for modern warfare, Sweden is also aiming at rapidly increasing their access to drone technology and know-how.
This webinar will include a representative from FMV, the Procurement Agency of the Swedish Armed Forces, who will give an overview of FMV:s procurement processes and opportunities in aviation and space, as well as Knowit, an agency that has been a central player in Swedish military and civil defense for many years and collaborated closely with the Swedish Armed Forces, the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration and the Swedish defense industry. The Digital Defense and Resilience Program is also considering the organization of a seminar and matchmaking event around the theme air and space in Stockholm at the end of the year. Before closing the webinar, this opportunity will be raised to gather opinions and feedback around such an initiative.
