Business Finland in collaboration with Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) invite Finnish companies, research institutes, and regional industry representatives to a trade and innovation mission to Berlin and Dresden on 1-4 September 2025. Take advantage of the market opportunities in Germany, at the heart of Europe.

The German government investing heavily in both manufacturing and R&D microelectronics and photonics, and is investing in future capacities to strengthen its position in the global markets.

This visit offers Finnish companies a valuable platform to showcase their cutting-edge solutions to key decision-makers and industry leaders in Berlin and Dresden. Participants will have the opportunity to connect with public authorities, private sector project owners, and potential investors. The mission also enables direct engagement with influential stakeholders across the semiconductor, photonics, and microelectronics sectors.

Background

Berlin is a major hub for microelectronics and photonics, with around 400 high-tech firms and over 16,000 employees in this sector. Berlin's semiconductor landscape is enriched by collaborations between leading research institutes, such as Fraunhofer IZM, and industry players. The photonics industry focuses on optical communication, sensor systems, laser technology, biomedical optics and ophthalmic optics. Key players in Berlin include global companies, leading-edge research institutes as well as numerous startups. Berlin's semiconductor industry is growing and is becoming increasingly important in the global semiconductor market.

Dresden, known as "Silicon Saxony," is a leading center for semiconductor manufacturing in Europe, and famous from the big fabrication plant projects of TSMC Europe, Bosch, and Infineon. The city is also a significant player in the photonics and optics industries. Dresden's microelectronics industry is thriving, with around 76,000 people working in the sector. The city's success is driven by local government support, seasoned industry veterans, and cooperation between industry and researchers.

Both cities are at the forefront of technological innovation in their respective fields, making significant contributions to the global optics, photonics, and semiconductor industries.
