The private sector is playing an increasingly important role in Poland’s healthcare system, covering 20–40% of the hospital market. In 2023, the value of private healthcare services reached approximately €12.3 billion, representing nearly 40% of the total healthcare market.
An aging population is driving demand for healthcare services. By 2029, over 25% of Poles will be of retirement age, and within the next 20 years, a significant share of the workforce will be over 55. Private hospitals are responding with greater flexibility, expanding one-day hospitalizations and outpatient care to better meet patient needs.
The private health insurance segment is experiencing particularly strong growth. In 2023, its market value rose by more than 33% year-on-year, outpacing the broader private healthcare market. Subscriptions and insurance plans offered as employee benefits remain popular, with around 14% of adults using private healthcare through these programs.
Looking ahead, the market outlook is promising. Increased investments from insurers, combined with rising patient expectations, are expected to further drive growth in Poland’s private healthcare sector.
