Finnish delicacies featured at Germany’s biggest food fair

This year, the Food from Finland program will participate in the fair together with 12 companies, including Kuivalihakundi, Laitilan Wirvoitusjuomatehdas, Kyrö Distillery, Kalaneuvos, Kouvolan Lakritsi, Lammin Sahti and Poikain Parhaat.

During the period of the Food from Finland program, Finland’s food exports to Germany have doubled from EUR 60 million to more than EUR 130 million. This week, the position of Finnish products in Germany will be strengthened once again by companies participating in the International Grüne Woche in Berlin from 20 to 29 January 2023.

The Food from Finland program implemented by Business Finland in Germany has produced visible results. Finnish products have been increasingly supplied to German distribution channels.

"We have been collaborating e.g. with the Edeka and Globus retail chains for a long time. These chains have been consistently introduced to new Finnish products and campaign cooperation under the "FINNLAND – AUS DER WILDNIS" (from wild nature) theme. Recently, Finnish products have also entered other major distribution channels in Germany, such as REWE and Amazon. With high quality, you can also succeed in the competitive German market," says Lili Lehtovuori, who is responsible for the Germany activities of the Food from Finland program.

Examples of Finnish consumer brands that have succeeded well in Germany include Atria (processed beef and broiler meat), Jymy (organic ice cream), Hätälä (processed fish), Kyrö (gin and other alcoholic products) and Lignell & Piispanen (vodka and other alcoholic products), which are all Finnish premium products.

Internationale Grüne Woche (IGW) is one of the world's leading international food fairs with a history spanning more than 95 years. This year, the Food from Finland program will participate in the fair together with12 companies, including Kuivalihakundi, Laitilan Wirvoitusjuomatehdas, Kyrö Distillery, Kalaneuvos, Kouvolan Lakritsi, Lammin Sahti and Poikain Parhaat.

The Finnish stand will also present the North Karelia region under the theme Saimaa  European Region of Gastronomy 2024. The stand will introduce new product innovations and tourism opportunities in the region.

The Food from Finland program will implement a completely carbon-neutral stand at the International Grüne Woche fair together with its partner Messeforum Oy. The carbon-neutral stand is the result of the development work of the Finnish exhibition builder Messeforum Oy. Messeforum Oy implements all the stands of Food from Finland and its other customers as carbon neutral.

At the fair, the Food from Finland program will also organize a networking event for German buyers, partners and media representatives together with the Embassy of Finland in Berlin. During the networking event, German partners will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with Finnish products and Finnish companies the opportunity to have one-on-one discussions with their partners even before the official start of the fair.
