At the beginning of August, Finland was actively involved in initiatives focused on reconstruction and global security, when events organised by Ukraine and NATO took place in the Nordic Pavilion. These events attracted significant attention from the local media and served an important diplomatic purpose. Japan is a NATO partner country that has committed to supporting Ukraine's reconstruction efforts.

On August 6, Ukraine’s National Day celebrations at the Osaka World Expo brought the international community together to show solidarity with Ukraine. The "After the Line" event at the Nordic Pavilion highlighted Ukraine's economic recovery and sustainable development. The day aimed to lay a foundation for Ukraine’s long-term reconstruction and investment opportunities.
Speakers emphasized the importance of rebuilding critical infrastructure, energy security, and renewable energy. Event was opened by Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Taras Kachka. Panelists included among others Ukraine’s Minister of Economy Oleksii Sobolev, Finland’s Commissioner General Nita Pilkama, and representatives from companies like Metinvest, DTEK, and Oschadbank. The event brought together public and private sector stakeholders from around the world, focusing on pathways to sustainable growth and development in a war-torn Ukraine.

NATO Days: Dialogues on Peace and Security

NATO Days fostered discussions on international peace and security. Nordic Pavilion events were part of the Expo's "Peace, Security, and Dignity" theme week, with a focus on the critical importance of collaboration in maintaining security.

The first day featured the conference "NATO’s Contribution to Preserving Peace & Stability," where diplomats, researchers, and experts explored NATO’s role in supporting global security. The day concluded with a networking event that allowed participants to deepen their partnerships.

The second day highlighted the role of youth in building peace and security with the event "Youth for Peace & Security", where young leaders from Japan and NATO member countries shared their perspectives. Japanese universities took part in this day, amplifying youth voices in international dialogue.

Finland contributed a strong delegation, including representatives from the National Cyber Security Centre, private companies, the defense forces, and diplomats.

Finland Strengthening International Cooperation

Finland actively participated in both events, reaffirming its commitment to promoting global peace and security. At the Ukraine-focused event, Finland emphasized the significance of reconstruction and sustainable development. Meanwhile, during NATO Days, it highlighted the importance of collaboration to ensure peace and stability.

Japan’s involvement in both events further underscores its dedication to addressing global challenges and preserving peace. Through these initiatives, Finland and other participants demonstrated strong support for Ukraine and collective efforts to uphold international peace and security.
