Team Finland customers' export growth outpaces general development of exports

President Alexander Stubb opened the 2025 Team Finland Day and encouraged Finnish companies to be agile and adaptable in the changing geopolitical situation.

The Team Finland network promoted the efforts of Finnish companies to expand internationally and enhanced Finland's attractiveness as an investment destination during 2024.

Finnish companies’ exports grew favourably in 2024, despite a challenging business environment. In the period 2021–2024, the exports of Team Finland’s customers grew by 23 per cent, while the general development of exports in the same period was 16 per cent. The exports of the network’s customer SMEs and midcap companies increased by more than EUR 2 billion from 2020 to 2024.

“Uncertainty of the global economy and the threat of trade wars have hampered our exports, and the changes that are taking place now cannot be analysed until later. That said, it seems that uncertainties in US customs policy, for example, are likely to be of less concern to companies seeking new export destinations,” says Finnvera’s Chief Economist Mauri Kotamäki, who spoke about export trends at the Team Finland Day.

Finland needs more growth companies

Alongside supporting Finnish companies to grow and increase their exports, the network’s goal is to attract skilled labour, tourists and investments to Finland. Its work to promote investments has generated a total of EUR 433 million in investments to Finland. The 905 new jobs that were created as a result strengthen Finland’s position as an attractive destination for sustainable growth and high technology.

Export companies must keep up with the latest developments and be prepared to change course or adapt their business operations to the constantly changing global policy landscape.

“In the midst of change, we must keep our objective clear: Finland needs more growth companies, which can find an increasing number of customers on the global market. Team Finland’s results show the network’s commitment to broadly supporting companies and international actors,” says Senior Director Marjo Ilmari from Business Finland.

In 2024, the Team Finland network:

  • provided financial and advisory services to around 9,000 customers
  • identified and published some 400 global market opportunities and contacted over 2,900 businesses
  • organised 120 Team Finland visits abroad and to Finland, with more than 2,800 Finnish companies participating
  • brought EUR 433 million in investments to Finland, resulting in 905 jobs being created
  • presented awards to the most successful export companies together with the President of the Republic.

The Team Finland Day held on 28 August sought answers to what the future of Finnish exports will be built on. A total of 650 representatives of Finnish growth companies and the Team Finland network attended the event in person.
