Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Iceland will participate in a joint Nordic pavilion at the World Expo held in Osaka, Japan in 2025. Japan is the world's third-largest economy and the second most important trading partner for Finnish companies in Asia.

The joint Nordic participation in the Osaka Expo supports and further strengthens the already positive Finland's country image in Japan. The Nordic joint model brings benefits participating Finnish companies, such as wider visibility and new network opportunities.

- The World Expo is an excellent place to showcase Finnish expertise to international markets. Joint Nordic participation undoubtedly adds value to Finnish companies as well. Japan, the host country, is an important partner for Finland, says Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä.

The Expo is expected to draw 28 million participants

The main theme of the Osaka World Expo is "Designing Future Society for Our Lives." The Expo will be held from April 13 to October 13, 2025, and it is estimated to attract around 28 million participants. The expected number of visitors to the Nordic Pavilion is around 2.3 million people, or 13,000 visitors per day.

The Nordic concept is built around common Nordic values of trust and nature. The Nordic project has three different industrial themes: circular economy, mobility and connectivity, and lifestyle and well-being. In addition, the project has two cross-cutting themes: sustainability and digitalisation. Business Finland is responsible for the implementation of the project in Finland.

- I am very pleased that the Nordic countries are joining forces in this significant project for Finland. Business Finland plays a key role in ensuring that all companies and programs operating in Japan are related to the project to benefit from Expo's unique opportunity and visibility, says Nina Kopola, CEO of Business Finland.

The tender for the design and construction of the Nordic joint pavilion has been launched in late April.
