Co-Research

Co-Research is funding for research organisations, such as universities and universities of applied sciences, for research projects that aim to create new expertise and business opportunities for Finnish companies. The public results of the research will serve as a basis for future research, development and innovation projects of companies.

Co-Research may be a good fit for you if:

• your goal is to create new knowledge and expertise that supports the future competitiveness and growth of companies
• the reseach identifies significant new business opportunities, but the companies do not yet have the capacity to utilise the results of the study in their own development work
• your research will increase strategic competence and lay the foundation for market-revolutionizing innovations

Co-research is not suitable if:

• the results achieved in the project are not public after the end of the project
• the project constitutes commissioned research or consulting for a company
• the results of the research project cannot be widely utilised outside the Co-Research consortium

Co-Creation

Co-Creation is funding for research organisations to jointly prepare a new research idea. Co-Creation serves as a preparatory phase for a joint Co-Innovation project between research organisations and companies. The aim is to create new international business opportunities. 

Co-Creation may be right for you if:

• you will work with companies on a new project idea and its potential, which can progress to a joint Co-Innovation project between the research organisation and the companies.
• you want to create the new consortium and competence network needed for the joint project and commit the companies to the joint development work

Co-Creation is not applicable if: 

• it is a question of preparations related to the leading companies' ("veturi)" partnership projects

Co-Innovation

Joint projects of research organisations and companies can be funded as a Co-Innovation joint project. The aim of the joint project is to develop new innovations, generate international business and accelerate the utilisation of research data in companies.

Co-Innovation may be right for you if:

• you have identified a common goal for the R&D project with companies and other participants
• your goal is to build significant new business and international growth for companies
• the research and the solutions developed through it have novelty value, market potential, credible commercialisation plans and societal impact

Co-Innovation is not suitable if:

• research results cannot be used extensively outside the Co-Innovation consortium

Research to Business 

Research to Business funding is intended for research organisations for projects in which a committed team wants to accelerate the creation of new business by preparing for the commercialisation of a product or service solution and conducting applied research guided by the preparation for commercialisation.

Research to Business may be suitable if:

• the need for a research-based product or service solution has been identified, and the team has an assumption about how it could be commercialised
• the innovation services unit of the research organisation has assessed the novelty value and commercial potential of the project idea to be high, and the research organisation is in favour of funding the project
• the desired business has the potential to succeed
• the applicant has sufficient rights to commercialise the research results
• the commercialisation path is not yet clear, and the project will therefore explore alternative options

Research to Business is not suitable if:

• the commercialisation path is clear
