The Team Finland network is organizing a Business Delegation visit to Chile, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic from 23 January – 1 February 2023. The focus sectors of the visit are sustainable mining (Chile), sustainable mining and education (Colombia) and sustainable mining, waste management and smart and sustainable ports (the Dominican Republic).
The mining sector is a cornerstone of the Chilean economy. Chilean mining companies are looking for solutions to optimization and automatization, digitalization, electromobility as well as energy and water efficiency. Since the mining companies are advancing also in digitalization and automation there is a need for capacity building and upskilling of the personnel.
Colombia´s mining industry has gradually increased over the last decades. Mining companies in Colombia are continuously looking for cutting-edge technologies to enhance their processes in a cost-efficient, sustainable, and environmentally friendly manner. Furthermore,Colombia’s newly elected President Gustavo Petro has announced that education will be a crucial sector in his administration. The main areas of Finnish offering befitting Colombia's education sector's current needs are: EdTech solutions, teacher education and training programmes, Vocational education and training, curricula development, as well as learning environments and infrastructure.
In the Dominican Republic, the mine operators are looking to improve operational efficiency and sustainability, both socially and environmentally, which is also a key aspect for the Ministry of Energy and Mines. Furthermore, the Dominican Republic needs an efficient waste management system in its municipalities, including in the capital Santo Domingo, where recycling is almost inexistent and waste management causes issues. Solutions to improve the recollection and recycling of municipal solid waste are highly needed, as well as solutions to support the closing of the country’s largest landfill, La Duquesa. Over 90% of the country’s foreign trade goes through ports, and the ports also handle large numbers of cruise ship tourists. The country wishes to find investments to modernize and expand its port capacity, and smart port solutions are an opportunity for Finnish providers, as are solutions providing operational efficiency and safety.
The goal of the visit is to foster relations between Finland and the target countries, as well as to offer an excellent opportunity for Finnish companies to establish high-level business connections with companies and public authorities in Chile, Colombia and the Dominican Republic and explore collaboration possibilities.
