The Indonesian President Mr. Joko Widodo announced 2019 a plan to relocate the new capital city to East Kalimantan Province and this idea has been well received and approved by the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia. The relocation aims to reduce the burden of Jakarta city as Indonesia’s primary hub and dismiss the Java centric era as well as to build equal development across the country.

The new capital city is planned to be built as a green, modern and smart city – a world class city for all. The main goal is to build a new city that is competitive at the global level and to build a new locomotive for the transformation of Indonesia as an innovative and technology-based with a green economy where citizens will be living good life with the help of data and sustainable technology.

Finland is a forerunner in sustainability and well working society. Finnish energy efficient and circular economy driven solutions pave the way to the smart city as well as carbon neutrality goals of Indonesia.
Digitalization is the core of the Finnish smart city and together with accurate connectivity a major enabler of the future oriented and well working community. The Finnish society has been built up gradually with the help of open public private relationship and a will to work together for a better citizen experience.

Business Finland together with the experts within the industries have introduced some of Finnish solutions and best practices which will assist the Indonesian government to elaborate the New Capital City planning and choose the best solutions in creating and build the IKN Nusantara. This delegation visit is meant to further develop the chosen topics and offerings that has been developed for a year with different stakeholders in Indonesia.

The Team Finland network together is organizing a Business Delegation visit to Indonesia on 20 - 24 November, 2022. Participating in the Team Finland visit will give an unique opportunity to meet relevant Indonesian companies and officials. The visit is led by Ms. Nina Vaskunlahti, Under-Secretary of State for International Trade, Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Who should attend?

These three sectors are specifically the three spearheads for this Team Finland visit.

  • Energy – to build up solutions to showcase how Finnish collaborative approach to energy system can be brought to Indonesia.
  • Sustainable and smart City – sustainable built environment and digitalization and connectivity at the built environment.
  • E-society – use of (open) data to build citizen services for citizen equality. Cyber security in public services.

The visit is aimed for companies representing Finnish flagship solutions and technologies in energy, sustainable and smart City as well as E-society solutions.
