Finland and Washington State signed a Memorandum of Understanding in November 2021 concerning cooperation in forest bioeconomy and technology industry. The aim of the collaboration is to establish industrial partnerships. Through these initiatives Finland and Washington work together to accelerate the transition to a green and sustainable economy.
The Team Finland Network will organize a business delegation visit to the State of Washington on 24-28 October 2022. The visit is led by Mr. Mikko Hautala, Ambassador of Finland to the United States.
The Team Finland Business Delegation will visit Seattle area in Washington State. The target of the mission is to advance economic & trade relations and innovation partnerships with Finland’s partner state Washington, with a special focus on bioeconomy, new biobased products and chemicals, lignin, hemicellulose, smart forestry, harvesting, planting, forest health, forest inventory and operations, wood construction, CLT, Mass Timber, LVL, sawmills, milling equipment, carbon capture and new innovations. Meetings will be arranged with business counterparts, Washington state leaders, Department of Natural Resources in Washington, and university researchers.
The host of the visit will be the Washington State Department of Natural Resources who has, in collaboration with Team Finland, planned a tour to visit the most relevant sites and businesses in the state. The Finnish delegation will be offered a tour to visit the main forestry industry sites, forest operations and sawmills outside Seattle.

Who should attend?
This onsite visit is aimed for Finnish companies and research organizations whose focus is forest bioeconomy, smart forestry, wood construction, new products, chemicals, biomass, sawmill technology or bioenergy.
Participating in the Team Finland delegation will be an excellent opportunity to promote and gain visibility for your company or research organization and meet with the local industries, state partners and Department of Natural Resources in Washington.
Practicalities
To cover the expenses of arranging the visit, Business Finland will charge a participation fee:
- Major Companies: 800 EUR + 24% VAT per person
- Micro Businesses and SMEs: 680 EUR + 24% VAT per person.
Business Finland will invoice the participation fee after the visit based on the actual costs, and the host of this visit will cover some of the networking and transportation costs. The invoiced fee will not exceed the amounts mentioned above. Kindly note that the participation fee does not include flights or accommodation of the participant nor meals outside the business delegation program.
