Call for ideas: Data Economy, Hydrogen & Batteries, Immersive Customer Experience

Business Finland has launched a call for ideas related to the themes: Data Economy, Hydrogen & Batteries and Immersive Customer Experience. A total of 23 million euros in funding has been allocated for this call and the subsequent actual funding application. The call for ideas ends on April 19, 2023.

Data Economy

Business Finland has launched the Data Economy program. In this call, we are looking for development projects related to the data economy, which aim to increase Finnish know-how and companies' ability to create new export business through the use and sharing of data. The call seeks projects that research, ideate and develop new business and export opportunities related to the data economy, cooperation and business models, as well as value creation in networks with the help of data. The call is particularly looking for projects that focus on the sharing and use of data in value networks, between organizations and industries. The projects can be related to, for example, data ownership, management and sharing, data marketplaces and platforms, new earning models and the interoperability of data and different systems.

Hydrogen & Batteries

Business Finland's goal is to launch the Hydrogen and Batteries – Dual Helix of Decarbonization program in the spring of 2023. A call for ideas is opened for the Hydrogen & Batteries theme, which aims to find new and innovative ideas that promote hydrogen and battery-related development and future export business. Application of intent are requested for example from the following topics related to hydrogen: hydrogen solutions for industrial needs and innovative end use, power-to-x innovations, digital solutions, new business models and material innovations related to hydrogen. Desired topics related to batteries include, for example, new production technologies that improve durability, material engineering solutions, such as replacement of critical materials, and improving the production and product safety of the various stages of the battery value chain.

Immersive Customer Experience

In 2023, Business Finland will be preparing the launch of the new Immersive Digital Life mission. One of the areas of immersive life is the strongly enhanced customer experience and new business models it enables.

Immersive Customer Experience theme seeks projects that creatively combine digital solution with a winning customer experience. Based on created knowledge, scalable concepts will be built for bringing added value for the customer in new and unique way. The goal of the projects should be to find ways to combine strong Finnish ICT competence with for example service design, behavioral and neuroscience, and utilization of data, thus helping Finnish companies to create new business.

The main target group of the call are consortiums researching and developing digital consumer business.

Schedule and selection process

  • The application process opens on March 6, 2023. Applications of intent, i.e. short descriptions of the project idea, are requested to be submitted to Business Finland's record office by April 19, 2023.
  • Business Finland evaluates the applications of intent, gives the applicants feedback on the application and tells them whether it is recommended to send the actual funding application or not.
  • The actual funding applications are requested to be sent by 30 August 2023 via Business Finland's online service. Business Finland's normal Co-Research and Co-Innovation funding services are used in the actual applications.
